This year the annual migration south from the waters off the Alaskan Coast will see over 18,000 Gray Whales travel the North America coastline to the Baja California Peninsula. Along the coast of Oregon the highest concentration of migrating whales tends to occur between mid-December and Mid to late January. The return north is spread out over a longer period during the spring. Late in March to June.
Generally the whales travel about five miles out but feeding takes them as it will. You can see them from many points along the coast. Binoculars and telescopes help.
Whale Watching Center in Depoe Bay is part of the Oregon State Parks system. Depoe Bay is recognized as one of the best whale watching locations in the world.

The four weeks between Mid December and Mid January could see 20,000 whales swimming south along the Oregon and California coastline. Most of the whales make the return trip north over the spring months of March, April and May.
There is so much more to see, storm watching and Christmas shopping on the Oregon Coast.
